Oh I hope so, I’ll be spending the day in bed.
With that hopeful thought in my head, I walk over to the pole, and grab hold of it.
“Right, 'Bumslide to standing.'” she orders.
I quickly take my place and do the requested move.
“'Extended skater', good, now 'Hang tough', fab you're doing a great job, 'Dove'. That’s it one more 'Bumslide to standing', Fantastic.” she praises me for every move I did, and I am astonished. I managed to do them all, without falling, or having to stop through pain. Still it really did hurt.
“Right, shoes on and let’s run it once more with instructions, then I want you to remember the sequence on your own.”
At this point I’m eager to get it done, just so my poor body can rest. I practically run to put my shoes on, and am back at the pole in no time at all.
I grab hold of it again, as Cassie shouts out the order. Once done I feel like I know it.
“Okay, on your own now.” Cassie says.
I start to do it. 'Bumslide to standing', 'Hang tough'.... then I struggle. Is it 'Extended skater' then 'Dove'? I think.
“No. again.” Cassie orders.
“Its 'Bumslide to standing', 'Extended skater', then 'Hang tough', followed by 'Dove', and 'Bumslide to standing' again to finish it off.”
Damn – I almost had it.
Again.
'Bumslide to standing', 'Extended skater', 'Hang tough', 'Dove' followed by 'Bumslide to standing'.
I repeat the sequence in my head till I’m finished, ensuring I don’t mess it up again.
I did it. I jump of the pole and do a little celebratory dance.
“Fantastic. Now take half hour before they call you for filming. They will call your room for you, so go relax, have a coffee and something to eat if you haven’t already.” she says fondly, as she dismisses me.
She hands me my robe, how it ended up here I don’t know, I left it in costume, but I throw it on, and make my way back to my room.
I pull the card key out of my room and swipe it in the lock.
The door opens, I walk in, throw my shoes off, and take five minutes relaxing on the comfy sofa in my room. I see a menu on the table, and pick it up.
I scan it quickly, and notice they do room service.
Perfect, I thought as I grab my phone and dial the number on the bottom of the menu.
“Hello, room service,” says an old man's voice through the handset.
“Hiya, can I make an order please?” I ask kindly.
“Certainly ma'am. Can I have your name please?” he asks.
“Yeah, its Rhiannon Addison.” I respond a little confused as to why he needs my name.
“Okay, we don’t have your name on the list. Can you tell me your room number please?”
“Urm – I wasn’t aware we had room numbers, where can I find the number for my room?” I ask feeling like a complete fool.
“It should be on your card key ma'am.” he responds like I’m a complete idiot for not knowing this already.
I pull my card key out of my pocket and turn it over. Sure enough on the other side is a number I hadn’t noticed before.
“My card key says room 201.” I tell him.
“Okay. You must be the new girl then, because that room has been empty for a few months.” he informs me kindly.
“First day” I explain.
“Well, it’s a pleasure to have you Miss Addison. I will put your name on the list so next time we will only require your name.” he says sounding relieved.
“Thank you.”
“No problem. What is your order please?”
“Can I just order a Mocha and a ham salad sandwich please.”
“Sure, it will be up in the next few minutes.” he says before he hangs up.
Well I never. Who knew ordering a sandwich could be so hard, but the guy was very kind.
I decide to text Grace while I’m waiting for the food.
**Oh gosh. Grace, this is killing me. I had to learn a few pole dancing moves. My arms and legs are killing. As for what I have to wear – well actually, that’s kind of cute. It is amazing though. I start filming soon. Just having food. Wish me look. Text ya when I’m done. Rhi XoX**
In no time at all she texts back, I’m pretty sure she always has that phone attached to her hands.
**Pole dancing hey. I might have to buy you a pole, I never thought you would get on a pole ;-) but good luck. I will catch up later. Busy with Jake if ya get my drift *wink wink, nudge nudge*. G XoX**
I laugh at her reply, honestly the dirty cow. There are some things I don’t need to know, and that is one of them, but Grace is always the same, so I don’t know why I’m so shocked.
As I’m laughing at her reply, I get a knock on my door.
Yay food, I think as I answer the door. As I predicted, which let’s be honest, wasn’t hard to do, my food is here.
I go to pay the man, but he said as I work here it’s free. BONUS.
I take the food and close the door. Sitting back on the sofa I dig into my sandwich. This is a damn good sandwich; I think as I finish the last bite. I slowly sip my coffee as I sit with my feet up on the sofa. Life is slowly coming back into my limbs as I relax.
Unfortunately, my relaxation doesn’t last long. A knock on my door makes me get up. I open the door and Toby is there.
“I'm guessing it’s time to go.” I say as I walk back into my room, and put my shoes on.
“It is indeed. I also bought you a mocha to drink between shoots.” he says holding a polyester cup.
“Thank you,” I reply with a big grin taking the coffee from him. This man is a gem, and I think he is going to be my new best friend, Grace doesn’t bring me coffee randomly through the day.
“You're welcome. After I take you down, I am going off for the day, so I will catch up with you tomorrow.” he says as he leads me to the studios.
He knocks on a door and walks in. I walk in behind him, and see a bunch of people stood in the room.
My eyes scan the room, and it looks like a night club with a few dancing poles set up on a stage. The main light is on, but looking above my head I know they won’t be on later. The lights above my head are a vary of colors and face in different direction giving of the night club vibe.
My eyes roam back to the people in the room.
“Right, here we have David, Anthony, Kevin, Scarlett, and Tamara.” he says introducing the people in the room.
“David and Tamara do cameras, Scarlett produces, Kevin does sound, while Anthony adjusts the set.” he tells me more clearly so I know who everyone is, and what they do.
They all greet me, and then another three people come in. Two men dressed in suits, and another lady dressed in clothes that match mine, just a different color.
“These are the actors and actress you will be working with today. Blake and Jase. Blake and Jase are playing the customers, Cane and Rhys. Then we have Crystal, she will play Donna, your screen name for this script is Karen.” Toby explains.
“Nice to meet you all.” I say as they all step forward and shake my hand in turn.
Blake is a tall red haired guy. He is dressed in a sharp grey suit, and his blue eyes are brightly reflecting the lights.
Jase is also tall, not as tall as Blake, has short brown hair, and brown eyes. He is dressed in black suit pants, white shirt, and a waist coat. I’m thinking they are playing business men. Both men look toned under their suits, but Jase looks a little more muscular.
“Right folks, for today it’s just the pole dancing scene. Crystal and Rhiannon, can I have you up here please?” Scarlett asks, brushing her black hair of her forehead. Crystal is the first to walk up to the podium, she is beautiful, but I don’t feel self-conscious around her. She has beautiful brown curly hair, and her hazel eyes are bright.
The way she grabs the pole tells me she is not new to this, but her movements don’t make me feel stupid. She has a kind and welcoming vibe to her.
“You
will both do the routine you have been practicing today.” Scarlett says as I reach the podium.
“Okay, David and Tamara are you ready?” she asks.
“Camera one and two set up.” David says.
“Confirmed.” Tamara answers.
“Kevin?” Scarlett asks.
“Ready,” the sound man confirms.
“Blake and Jase, we just need you to sit on that corner bench there.” Scarlett orders, directing the men to a seat.
Both men follow orders and soon everyone is ready for filming.
“Right, after three cameras roll, on five you are to start. Ready?” Scarlett asks. When she gets a reply from everyone she starts her countdown.
“One...... Two...... Three, cameras,” at that request the lights go dark, the music starts pumping, and I start to feel pumped too.
“......Four, …... Five, action,” she says softly, but somehow she is still heard above the music.
I start moving, and try remembering the order of the moves.
'Bumslide to standing', 'Extended skater', 'Hang tough', 'Dove' followed by 'Bumslide to standing', I repeat this as a mantra to myself ensuring I don’t screw this up.
I look over to crystal and see she is doing it perfectly well. She has a smile on her face and is looking to the boys. I look over to the boys, and they are watching us with big smiles.
“Cut,” Scarlett shouts.
“Now, Rhiannon, your moves are great, but your face expressions are saying something different to your body. Smile, look like you're having fun.” she says as she walks to the podium we're stood on.
She steps to the side and resumes the filming.
Again my mantra - 'Bumslide to standing', 'Extended skater', 'Hang tough', 'Dove' followed by 'Bumslide to standing'. This time I make sure I smile. You would think smiling would be easy, but trying to mask over the pain my legs and arms are in is hard work.
Finally, though, I do it. I Finish the scene, and even manage to make my moves a little flirty, moving a little easier and freely. Once I got in the swing of it, it was easy.
“Cut,” Scarlett shouts again.
“Well done, that’s a wrap.” she says smiling as she walks over to me and crystal. “Well done ladies. You did great.”
“Thank you. Rhiannon that was amazing for a first timer.” Crystal compliments me.
“Thank you.” I say blushing. I'm happy that I get complimented from someone with much more experience than me.
“Same time tomorrow, but we will be filming longer, and more scenes. Crystal and Rhiannon, it might be beneficial if you both rehearse together.” she suggests.
“That would be great, if Rhiannon agrees.” Crystal says looking at me.
“Sure,” I mutter feeling a little deflated. If I was good, why would they recommend I rehearse with someone else? I think to myself as I’m handed my robe.
After throwing my robe over my shoulders, I start to walk out the studio with Crystal hot on my heels.
“Rhiannon, wait,” she shouts. I holt all movement and turn to meet her.
“That really was amazing for your first scene. You feared nothing, even with all the people in there. My first one was a disaster.” she enlightens me as she giggles.
“Anyway, I saw your face drop when Scarlett suggested you rehearse with me.”
“Yeah, sorry about that. It wasn’t aimed at you.”
“No, I know. It’s not because they are disappointed. If we are doing scenes together they prefer to have us rehearse together. It helps us move around each other more freely, and we won’t have any accidents.” she explains.
“Well I guess that makes sense.” I reply feeling a little less self-conscious.
“So, tomorrow, you up for rehearsing together?” Crystal asks again.
This time I feel more confident in my answer, “Of course I would.”
“Great, meet in the canteen about eleven?” she asks.
“Perfect. Meet you then.” I respond with a smile.
“Great, see you tomorrow.” she says as she walks away to her room I’m guessing.
With a big cheesy smile on my face, I make my way back to my room.
Once I am finally back in the comfort of my room, I throw the robe off, and just take five minutes on my own.
It’s a little time later, when I stir. I guess I must have fallen asleep, and had a quick power nap. Taking a deep breath, I get up and walk in my bathroom. Stripping out of my costume, I carefully place it on the side as I jump in the shower.
Washing away all the hair products, and make up away as the warm water cascades down my body feels amazing.
In no time at all, I feel cleaner and really think about getting out of this shower.
Finally, after an internal battle with myself I am out the shower, much to my body’s protest, and put the clothes I had on this morning back on.
Grabbing my bag, and my room key, I make my way down to the ground floor.
I make my way to the cafeteria an order a mocha in a take away cup so I can drink it on my way home.
*****
Stepping out in to the evening air feels great. I have been stuck in the big house all day. In a way, I hope every day isn’t like that. I like to see some of our morning sunshine.
Walking down the steps, the valet sees me and heads for my car. He is gone a few seconds before he zooms up in my car. My car isn’t used to being handled like that, I worry it might stop working any time soon.
I take my key, thank him, then climb in my car. I place my cup in the holder, and pull my phone out.
**Oh gosh, I sure hope you're at mine with that wine. Just finished. Been a long day. Will be home soon, and will tell you all about it. Rhi XoX**
I press send before I throw the phone back in my bag, and place it on the passenger seat. Switching the radio on, I turn it up high, and start my journey home. I never thought I would be this tired after one day at work. I can’t wait to see me bed tonight, it feels like a life time ago I was last in it.
The adrenaline is leaving my system leaving me drained, and achy from head to toe.
Pushing my foot harder on the gas, I make it home in forty-five minutes, luckily enough to not get caught for breaking the speeding limit on more than one occasion.
I park my car outside my apartment complex, and make my way to my door.
Slowly opening the door, I am pleased to see Grace stood the other side of the door with a glass of wine in her hand for me. It feels like weeks have passed since I was last here, when in reality it was a few hours. It was just a crazy few hours, with very little time to sit and relax.
I am pleased to see Grace waiting for me.
“Oh Grace, how glad I am to see you.” I say as I grab the glass of wine from her, and make my way over to the sofa.
“So..... gossip!” Grace demands as she sits on the sofa beside me. I look at her, and drink half of my wine straight down.
“It was so good, but I am so tired now.” I say leaning back, giving my eyes some much needed rest.
“I want details Rhi, stop being coy.” Grace demands, making my poor eyes open once again.
“Grace, I don’t know what to say really. I met so many amazing people. My body is hurting and I have to do it all again tomorrow.” I say narrowing my day down to a few seconds of explanation.
“Why do you hurt?” I knew my quick explanation wouldn’t tame her.
“Pole dancing is a bitch. It really is harder than it looks.”
“That’s something I never thought you would do. Pole dancing and you, I would pay to see that.” she laughs
“Honestly you don’t. It’s fun, but so painful. You should come to a few pole dancing lessons. I have to take them to improve on the pole.”
“I would love to come with you. Although me on a pole will not be happening. Was they any eye candy?” she asks smiling a mischievous smile.
“There was a few hot men.” I admit.
“Well, spill, I want names and descriptions.
” she says seriously.
I take another swig of my wine and reel of my little list.
“Well there is Kaleb, he is the boss. He is good looking, and he was really nice, but he looks like he could be a bit intimidating. Next we have Toby. He has been with me a good portion of the day, and even brings me coffee, I think he might be my new best friend.” I tell her. She nudges me with her elbow, “Grace, I was joking. You are irreplaceable, and I love you. Plus, you bring me wine.” I say on a laugh, which makes her laugh.
“Then we have Jase. He is one of the guys on set, and he is dreamy with his brown eyes.”
“Wow that’s quite a list on day one.” she laughs.
“I know, then we have the filming crew, but I don’t really know about them.”
“Are they all nice though?”
“Yeah, they were all so kind, and wasn’t bothered about a new person joining in.”
“That’s good, do you think you will stick this out?” Grace asks seriously.
“I don’t see why not, I actually really enjoyed it Grace.”
“That’s fantastic Rhi” she says with a smile, as she raises her wine glass to mine.
*****
The following day I arrive at work for nine, and I use my card key to get past the big iron gates.
As usual the valet is waiting to take my car. Passing over the keys I walk in to the building, not bothering to wait for the hum of my engine as he zooms away.
Walking in the grand entrance, I make my way to the cafeteria to order my normal mocha. The old guy behind the counter starts to talk to me, “Are you Rhiannon?” he asks me.
Looking and feeling confused I respond, “Yes I am,” I say warily.
“Pleased to meet you. I am the one who took your phone order yesterday, and it’s always good to put a face to a name.” he says kindly.
“Pleasure to meet you too.” I smile at him.
“Mocha isn’t it?” he asks already knowing what I like.
